GTA 6 Regions: The 6 Areas of Leonida and What We Know About Each

GTA 6 spreads Leonida across a major city, tropical islands, wetlands, fading tourist towns, sugar country and wilderness. Rockstar has now introduced six main regions, each with a very different identity.

Rockstar has introduced six major regions of Leonida in GTA 6: Vice City, Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park.

Together they cover beaches, dense city streets, tropical islands, wetlands, industrial towns, fading tourist areas and forests where Rockstar has already confirmed hunting, fishing and off-road exploration. Game Informer’s September 2026 GTA 6 coverage again identifies these six regions as the major pieces of Leonida and adds new context about the map’s scale, density, interiors, wildlife and weather. Rockstar North’s Aaron Garbut describes Leonida as roughly twice the size of GTA V’s map, while also emphasizing greater density, detail, interaction and interior space. This guide is about what each region is like and what role it appears designed to play. For exact placement, community mapping and distances, see our separate GTA 6 map guide.

Vice City

Official

Vice City is Leonida’s major urban center. Rockstar has named places including Ocean Beach, Little Cuba, Tisha-Wocka and VC Port. Official footage and screenshots show skyscrapers, hotels, beaches, residential neighborhoods, nightlife, highways and a huge amount of activity around the water. Vice City is also where many of the locations in our GTA 6 real-life Miami guide come from.

What’s there

The city changes dramatically from one neighborhood to another. The beach district revolves around hotels, restaurants, clubs and tourism. Downtown brings offices and towers. Little Cuba adds a more residential and cultural side. The port connects the city to cruise ships, freight and the water. A lot happens within a relatively small area.

What it could mean for gameplay

Vice City looks built around density. Traffic. Pedestrians. Businesses. Interiors. Police. Clubs. Ports. Beaches. Highways. The amount happening per block may matter as much as the overall size of the city. It is also the obvious place for different stories and systems to collide.

Real-world inspiration

VERY STRONG INFERENCE: Vice City is primarily based on Miami and Miami Beach.

Dozens of real streets and buildings can already be matched to Rockstar footage. Their exact arrangement changes considerably. Rockstar takes Miami apart and rebuilds it as a playable city.

Leonida Keys

Two divers swim through a coral reef in the Leonida Keys alongside a sea turtle, an eel and schools of fish

Official

The Leonida Keys form a tropical island chain to the south. Rockstar presents them as laid-back, beautiful and surrounded by water that can also become dangerous. Jason and Brian Heder are directly connected to this region. Brian has spent years moving product through the Keys, and Jason begins the story working inside that world.

What’s there

Water. Bridges. Small islands. Bars. Waterfront homes. Docks. Boats. Long roads running over the ocean. Rockstar has also shown marine wildlife and activities tied to the water.

What it could mean for gameplay

The Keys let GTA 6 leave the city without leaving civilization behind. A road can lead to a boat. A boat can lead to another island. Then a small settlement puts you back among people. The geography naturally encourages travel by water. It also fits a criminal world built around smuggling and moving goods.

Real-world inspiration

VERY STRONG INFERENCE: the obvious reference is the Florida Keys.

Seven Mile Bridge and other real locations from the Keys have already appeared in GTA 6 material. Rockstar compresses distances and rearranges islands in much the same way it rebuilds Miami.

Grassrivers

Chase through the Grassrivers wetlands: a camouflaged pickup loaded with alligators flees police cars, an airboat and a helicopter

Official

Grassrivers is Leonida’s major wetland region.

Rockstar describes mangroves, shallow water and predators capable of making the wilderness dangerous very quickly. Alligators are an obvious presence. The wildlife goes much further. According to Game Informer, GTA 6 contains more than 170 animal species.

What’s there

Wetlands. Mangroves. Canals. Airboats. Alligators. Birds. Fish. Roads cutting through huge areas of waterlogged terrain. Small settlements sit inside landscapes where nature dominates.

What it could mean for gameplay

Grassrivers could be one of the regions where the environment itself matters most. Visibility changes. Water and vegetation restrict normal vehicle routes. The terrain forces different ways of moving. A much larger wildlife system may also give the area a rhythm completely different from Vice City. Rockstar has clearly invested heavily in animal life. We still do not know how deeply every species will affect gameplay.

Real-world inspiration

VERY STRONG INFERENCE: Grassrivers draws heavily from the Everglades and other South Florida wetlands.

Some individual locations appear to have real counterparts, but the broader region works as a composite.

Port Gellhorn

Official

Port Gellhorn is a former tourist destination that has seen better days. Rockstar describes cheap motels, shuttered attractions, empty malls and a much rougher economy. The official description even mentions grabbing a dirt bike. The atmosphere is a long way from Vice City.

What’s there

Wide roads. Motels. Small businesses. Parking lots. Run-down storefronts. Closed attractions. Commercial areas that have lost much of their former activity. Money moves differently here.

What it could mean for gameplay

Port Gellhorn gives Leonida a poorer and more deteriorated side. That changes the look of the region and the culture around it. Different vehicles. Different businesses. Different homes. More road. Less glamour. Rockstar has mentioned the dirt bike directly, but that does not confirm races, championships or any wider mechanic built around it.

Real-world inspiration

This one needs more caution.

COMMUNITY/INFERENCE: recent mapping work has found a number of references around Panama City and Panama City Beach, along with broader Gulf Coast and Florida Panhandle influences.

Several buildings once searched for in Miami have since been matched there. That strengthens the Panhandle interpretation without making it an official Rockstar equivalence.

Ambrosia

A driver in a red cap sits in his car while women in American-flag bikinis wash the soapy windshield

Official

Ambrosia is one of Leonida’s industrial centers.

Rockstar presents Allied Crystal as a major source of local employment. The other major force is a biker gang that, according to Rockstar’s own description, provides nearly everything else. Those two details already tell us a lot about the region.

What’s there

Industry. Sugar. Rail. Interior highways. Workers. Refineries. Small businesses. Bikers. An economy that appears to revolve around one dominant company.

What it could mean for gameplay

Ambrosia shows Leonida away from tourism. A company dominates the formal economy. A criminal group fills some of the space around it.

That creates an easy worldbuilding structure to understand:

jobs, money, power and dependence. It could be especially useful for stories where legitimate business and criminal influence share the same town.

Real-world inspiration

COMMUNITY/INFERENCE: Clewiston, Lake Okeechobee and Florida’s sugar belt are the strongest references.

Allied Crystal also echoes the real importance of the sugar industry in that part of the state. The regional connection is strong. Rockstar has not said that Ambrosia literally equals Clewiston.

Mount Kalaga National Park

Mud-covered dirt bike riders and an ATV race past abandoned graffiti-covered silos as a raccoon darts across the trail

Official

Mount Kalaga National Park marks Leonida’s northern frontier.

Rockstar has been unusually specific here. It directly mentions hunting, fishing and off-road trails. The region also contains forests and people living far from the main population centers. This is one area where we need very little speculation about what Rockstar wants it to offer.

What’s there

Forests. Elevation. Rivers. Dirt roads. Wildlife. Remote communities. Hunting. Fishing. Off-road driving.

What it could mean for gameplay

Mount Kalaga gives players a way to get far away from Vice City. The activities change too. Fish. Hunt. Explore trails. Drive away from paved roads. Distance from the city may give the region a sense of isolation that the other areas cannot reproduce.

Real-world inspiration

There is much less certainty here.

INFERENCE/COMMUNITY: northern Florida, Georgia and Appalachian landscapes have all been proposed.

There is no agreed one-to-one counterpart. Mount Kalaga appears to combine references to give Leonida more forest and elevation than southern Florida could provide on its own.

Rockstar wants Leonida to feel like a state

The six regions support very different kinds of life. Vice City concentrates people, tourism and money. The Keys revolve around the water. Grassrivers belongs to the wetlands. Port Gellhorn carries the remains of an older tourist economy. Ambrosia revolves around industry. Mount Kalaga opens the map into wilderness and isolated communities. That variation can make traveling across Leonida meaningful before we even start counting square miles. Scale matters. Density and variety may matter just as much.

Weather changes how Leonida feels

Rockstar has also discussed a much more developed weather system with Game Informer. Dynamic clouds. Localized rain. Wet surfaces that persist after rainfall. Tropical storms. Hurricanes. That can affect how each region feels. A storm over Vice City changes traffic, lighting and city streets. In Grassrivers, it hits terrain already dominated by water. Across the Keys, wind, sea conditions and visibility become much more noticeable. And the farther you move from the city, the more room weather has to become part of the landscape itself. Rockstar has not yet explained the full gameplay consequences of these systems. What we know about storms and hurricanes is in our GTA 6 weather guide.

More than 170 animal species

Wildlife is another system that crosses regional boundaries. Game Informer reports more than 170 animal species in GTA 6. That matters most obviously in Grassrivers, the Leonida Keys and Mount Kalaga, although animals also appear in and around Vice City. The number alone does not tell us how complex every species is or how much interaction each one supports. It does show that wildlife occupies a much larger place in Leonida than it did in GTA V. The confirmed species, from alligators to manatees, are in our GTA 6 animals guide.

Where exactly are the six regions?

Rockstar has confirmed the names and shown material from all six. Their exact borders are a different matter. Many of the detailed maps circulating online are community reconstructions built from roads, skylines, road signs, sun positions, mountains and distances seen in official footage. Some are extremely detailed. They are still reconstructions. For that work, see our dedicated GTA 6 map guide.

The real Florida behind Leonida

A lot of Florida is recognizable inside GTA 6. Vice City draws from Miami. Leonida Keys reflect the Florida Keys. Grassrivers uses the Everglades. Ambrosia resembles Clewiston and the Lake Okeechobee sugar belt. Port Gellhorn pulls from the Gulf Coast and Panhandle. Mount Kalaga appears to look farther north. For specific buildings, roads and addresses, use our separate GTA 6 real-life locations guide.

That keeps two different questions separate:

how Leonida is structured and which real place inspired a particular building.
