GTA 6 Age Rating: PEGI, ESRB and Why It Is Adults Only
Intense violence, blood and gore, drugs, nudity and strong sexual content. GTA 6's final ratings now let us separate what is officially confirmed from the details briefly published by PEGI.
GTA 6 is rated PEGI 18 in Europe, Mature 17+ by the ESRB in North America and R18+ in Australia.
Rockstar and the ESRB officially list Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Mature Humor, Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, and Use of Drugs and Alcohol.
Australia is even more direct: high impact violence, sex scenes and drug use.
There is also much more specific information about cocaine, decapitation, dismemberment, animals and nightclub content.
That material needs a different label.
It came from a detailed PEGI description published on October 2, 2026 and subsequently removed. Screenshots and reports from outlets that saw the page preserve what it said, but the detailed listing itself is no longer publicly accessible.
What age rating does GTA 6 have?
| Region / board | Rating | Main information | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Europe — PEGI | PEGI 18 | Adults-only age category | Confirmed; detailed description was later removed |
| US — ESRB | Mature 17+ | Blood and gore, intense violence, mature humor, nudity, strong language, strong sexual content, drugs and alcohol | Confirmed and currently accessible |
| Australia | R18+ | High impact violence, sex scenes and drug use | Confirmed and currently accessible |
For European players, the short answer is simple:
GTA 6 is PEGI 18.
Why is GTA 6 rated for adults?
The currently accessible official sources point to several categories.
Blood, gore and intense violence
Rockstar and the ESRB list:
Blood and Gore
Intense Violence
Australia classifies the game for high impact violence.
That is enough to confirm strong violence and graphic blood or injury content.
Specific claims about decapitation and dismemberment come from the removed PEGI description.
Drugs and alcohol
Rockstar and the ESRB confirm:
Use of Drugs and Alcohol
Australia explicitly mentions drug use.
Drug use is therefore part of the officially confirmed content.
The more specific description of carrying cocaine and using it directly from the player’s hand appeared in PEGI’s removed detailed listing.
Nudity and sexual content
Rockstar and the ESRB list:
Nudity
Strong Sexual Content
Australia goes further by explicitly using the words “sex scenes.”
Sex scenes therefore do not rely solely on the removed PEGI page. They are also named by a currently accessible official Australian classification.
Strong language
The ESRB and Rockstar list Strong Language.
PEGI’s removed description went into greater detail, but strong language itself is already officially confirmed.
In-game purchases
Rockstar and the ESRB also list:
In-Game Purchases
The PlayStation Store describes GTA 6 as having optional in-game purchases.
That confirms some form of additional purchasing.
It does not yet define the full scope of those purchases or prove that the single-player story contains a traditional microtransaction store.
What is confirmed and what came from the removed PEGI listing?
This is the quickest way to separate the evidence.
| Claim | Evidence | Status |

What the detailed PEGI description revealed
A much more detailed GTA 6 listing appeared on PEGI on October 2.
It was later removed.
Forbes, GamesRadar and RockstarINTEL were among the outlets that documented or reproduced its contents.
According to that description, GTA 6 allows violence against civilians, criminals and authorities.
Certain weapons could result in detailed decapitation and dismemberment.
Drug use was described as frequent and prominent. Players could reportedly use illegal drugs from their inventory and carry cocaine that could be consumed directly.
The description also referred to sex scenes, nudity, additional sexual content in nightclubs and domestic animals that could be harmed by the player, although without the same level of visible injury as human characters.
Those are significant details.
They also come from a different level of evidence.
PEGI published them, then removed the detailed listing.
PEGI has not publicly explained why.
Does GTA 6 have decapitation and dismemberment?
The removed PEGI description said certain weapons could cause detailed decapitation and dismemberment.
Rockstar and the ESRB currently list Blood and Gore and Intense Violence.
So the evidence can be stated cleanly:
gore is officially confirmed; specific decapitation and dismemberment details come from the removed PEGI description.
Can you use cocaine in GTA 6?
Drug use is officially confirmed.
Rockstar and the ESRB list Use of Drugs and Alcohol, while Australia confirms drug use.
Cocaine is the more specific claim.
PEGI’s removed description said players could carry cocaine and consume it directly from the hand, while illegal drugs could be used through an inventory.
Rockstar has not yet published its own detailed explanation of that mechanic.
Does GTA 6 have sex scenes?
Yes.
Australia’s current official classification explicitly states “sex scenes.”
Rockstar and the ESRB also list Nudity and Strong Sexual Content.
PEGI’s removed description contained more specific information about nightclub content and interactive private dances.
Will GTA 6 have microtransactions?
The current answer is:
GTA 6 has in-game purchases, but their full scope has not been explained.
Rockstar and the ESRB display In-Game Purchases.
PlayStation labels the purchases as optional and describes GTA 6 as a single-player game that can be played offline.
Paid editions and additional campaign-related content also exist.
None of that is enough to establish that Jason and Lucia’s story contains a conventional microtransaction store.
What PEGI information can no longer be checked directly?
The issue is not whether the detailed listing was ever visible.
It was published, captured and reported by multiple outlets.
The issue is that the detailed description is no longer available on PEGI’s public website.
That is why we use two different labels.
When Rockstar, ESRB, Australia or PlayStation still publishes a claim, we mark it confirmed.
When a specific detail comes only from the removed PEGI description, we mark it published, then removed.
We also do not know why PEGI took the page down.
Any explanation for the removal remains speculation unless PEGI gives one publicly.
GTA 6 vs GTA 5 age ratings
The rating alone does not prove that GTA 6 is dramatically more adult than GTA 5.
Both games are Mature 17+ under the ESRB.
GTA V also carries descriptors for blood and gore, intense violence, mature humor, nudity, strong language, strong sexual content, and drugs and alcohol.
That makes the broad rating labels remarkably similar.
The interesting differences are in the specific details described for GTA 6, particularly those contained in PEGI’s removed write-up.
Until the final game is playable, we also do not know how frequent those moments will be or how much of the overall experience they represent.
Is GTA 6 suitable for children?
In Europe, PEGI 18 means the game is intended for adults.
In the United States, the ESRB rates it Mature 17+.
The reasons are straightforward:
intense violence,
blood and gore,
strong sexual content,
nudity,
drug and alcohol use,
and strong language.
If the question is whether Rockstar is designing GTA 6 as a game for children or younger teenagers, the age ratings already answer it.
No.
