GTA 6 file size: how many GB it needs on PS5 and Xbox
Rockstar hasn't said how many GB GTA 6 takes up. The 676.7 GB figure came from a parody account; the 244.86 GB one, from an unverified screenshot. The real number shows up on your console when preload opens on November 12.

Rockstar hasn’t announced GTA 6’s file size. As of September 30, 2026, there’s no official download or install size for PS5 or Xbox Series X|S: not on Rockstar’s site, not on PlayStation’s game page, not on the Xbox Store listing.
The two numbers going around don’t survive a closer look. The 676.7 GB image came from a parody account. The 244.86 GB one came from a screenshot nobody has been able to verify. The first real number will show up on your own console on November 12, when preload opens.
How many GB is GTA 6?
Officially, nobody knows yet.
Rockstar’s support page on platforms and editions confirms preload and the physical edition’s download code, and doesn’t list a single GB. PlayStation’s page for the game confirms November 19 on PS5 and PS5 Pro, with no storage figure. The Xbox Store listing shows editions and prices: $79.99 and $99.99. Size, nothing.
Some headlines already say “official file size.” Follow the source and none of them lead back to Rockstar, Sony or Microsoft.
The 676.7 GB figure is fake
The image made the rounds in June: an Xbox store page with 676.7 GB next to GTA 6.
It came from @GameJoker_, an account whose own bio describes it as a source of parody gaming news and says its stories are fake, as Insider Gaming reported on June 24. The screenshot also said “Install on your home Xbox One.” GTA 6 isn’t coming to Xbox One. It’s coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Insider Gaming also pointed out that the number lines up with the “67” meme.
Parody account, wrong console, joke number. That settles it.
Is GTA 6 244.86 GB?
On September 19, a screenshot of a PlayStation screen listing 244.86 GB of required space for GTA 6 spread on Reddit.
IBTimes UK picked it up on September 21 and said it couldn’t verify it. Sony’s public listing doesn’t show that number either.
The same outlet rounded up other figures floating around Reddit threads since August: 184, 218, 250 and 296 GB. All of them are player estimates.
The range that keeps coming up runs from 150 to 300 GB. Use it as a rough guide to how much room to clear while you wait for Rockstar’s number.

Preload starts at local midnight on November 12, according to Rockstar Support. One week before launch.

The physical edition downloads the whole game too
Rockstar is clear about it: the physical version comes with a download code, and there’s no disc in the box. That code works for preload too.

How much space to clear
Without an official number, any exact figure would be made up. What you can do right now is check how much room you have.
On PS5, go to Settings > Storage. On Xbox Series X|S, go to Settings > System > Storage devices.
