Rockstar is selling a $400 GTA 6 collector's box: the game is sold separately

The eleven pieces are merchandise for a TV show that exists only inside the game, and adding a copy of GTA 6 takes the minimum spend to $479.98.

On 24 September Rockstar Games opened pre-orders on its official store for a Grand Theft Auto VI collector’s box that costs $399.99 and does not include the game. The listing says so in one line: “Grand Theft Auto VI game sold separately.” Anyone who wants the box and the game will spend at least $479.98, before shipping.

The official name is Grand Theft Auto VI: The Goodtime State – Vice City Collection. The press has been calling it a “collector’s edition”, but Rockstar does not use the word “edition” in its Newswire announcement or on the listing. In the UK it costs £349.99, according to VGC, and Spanish outlets such as 3DJuegos (in Spanish) list it at €399.99 in the eurozone.

The maths with the game

The standard edition of GTA 6 costs $79.99 and the Ultimate edition $99.99, prices Take-Two confirmed in June. Add the box and the total is $479.98 with the standard edition or $499.98 with the Ultimate. Both figures are our own sums, since Rockstar sells no bundle.

On another scale, the price of the box alone buys five copies of the standard edition. The listing also states that the item is not eligible for free shipping, so the real spend sits a little above those totals.

What the Spanish-language press said

In Spain the loudest criticism came through 3DJuegos (in Spanish), whose headline says Rockstar “forgets to include the game” (our translation), and Vandal (in Spanish), which led with the missing copy. The argument they gathered from players is that a €400 product sold as a collection should contain the main item being collected.

In Rockstar’s defence, the warning is on the listing before anyone pays, and the company has never presented the box as an edition of the game. The complaint is about what the format leads buyers to expect.

Eleven items for an invented show

The store listing names eleven pieces: a Macca the Gator figure with a hidden stash compartment, a pair of Oakley Frogskins sunglasses, a Leonida Keys crossbody bag, a New Era 9FORTY snapback, a Macca the Gator magnetic mirror, a Chunkee the Manatee shot glass, a swizzle spoon, a razor blade keychain, an enamel pin set in a metal tin, a sticker pack in a stash bag, and a double-sided poster with a map of Leonida.

Rockstar describes the set as “a premium Grand Theft Auto VI collectible set featuring all the essentials for a good time, inspired by Leonida’s hit TV show, Macca the Gator.” Leonida is the fictional state where the game takes place, and Macca the Gator is a programme that exists only inside it. The figure and the mirror are merchandise for a show no buyer has been able to watch, because the game that airs it launches on 19 November.

The idea has precedent at the studio. For two decades Rockstar has filled its maps with radio stations, television networks and brands that run their own adverts. In our reading, selling objects from those invented brands carries that habit off the screen.

What is not confirmed

Rockstar has not given a unit count. The announcement is titled “while supplies last”, which we read as a sign of a limited run, though the company has not said how limited.

There is no shipping date either. The store marks the item as “coming soon” and takes pre-orders without an estimated date. The game launches on 19 November 2026, as Rockstar confirmed on its Newswire, but the box is a separate store product and may follow its own schedule.
