GTA 6 starts at Jason’s first house
Rob Nelson confirms that the story begins in the Leonida Keys, where Jason’s first home is located. Famitsu
The property belongs to Brian Heder.
It’s Brian’s house. Jason pays no rent, but he does have to help with Brian’s shakedowns.
Rockstar says Brian lets him stay there while Jason helps with local shakedowns. Rockstar Games
The waterfront house becomes one of Jason’s first everyday spaces.
His access to it comes through Brian and the story.
Safehouses change with the chapters
Nelson describes GTA 6 as a chapter-based story.
As Jason and Lucia move through it, their hideouts change too. Famitsu
Where they live can therefore reflect the part of the story they are currently in.
One safehouse can belong to one phase.
Later, the couple moves elsewhere.
Rockstar has not published:
- the total number of safehouses;
- every safehouse name;
- which chapter unlocks each one;
- whether old safehouses remain freely accessible later.
Safehouses work more like RDR2 camps
Nelson directly compares GTA 6’s hideouts with Red Dead Redemption 2’s camps.
RDR2 camps continued to function while the player was elsewhere.
GTA 6 builds on that idea.
People living in a safehouse have daily schedules, and Jason and Lucia do not have to be doing the same thing at the same time. Famitsu
The safehouse therefore acts as part of the living world rather than simply a save point or wardrobe.
You can eat and interact with the safehouse
Preview footage shows several domestic interactions.
Jason can open the fridge and take food.
Nelson says Rockstar once experimented with requiring players to buy groceries and restock the fridge, but removed that system because it became too complicated. Famitsu
Food remains useful because it connects with GTA 6’s stat and buff systems.
Creator previews also describe actions including:
- shaving;
- limited hair cutting;
- interacting with household objects;
- throwing away trash. Vice
Nelson confirms that hair can be cut at a safehouse, although the available options are more limited than at a salon. Famitsu
Rubius’ preview showed a much more interactive safehouse
During his private Rockstar North demonstration, Rubius described a Jason and Lucia apartment different from the one shown in the Extended Look.
According to his account, doors, light switches and smaller objects could be interacted with. He also described a bottle that could be picked up and opened, with the liquid moving inside as the bottle changed position.
It is one example of the interaction Rockstar showed in that build.
We do not know whether every safehouse will offer exactly the same interactions.
Can you buy houses in GTA 6?
Creator previews report that residential safehouses unlock through story progression rather than being purchased. Vice
That matches Nelson’s direct description of Jason and Lucia moving between hideouts as the chapters progress.
This applies to the homes where the protagonists live.
Garages have a confirmed purchase system.
Rockstar has not announced a general catalogue of apartments, mansions or residential houses that players can freely buy during the campaign.
You can buy garages
Rob Nelson confirms that you begin with capacity for three vehicles.
If all three slots are occupied and you want to register another car as a personal vehicle, you need to free space or increase your capacity. Famitsu
You increase it by buying garages around the map.
Three vehicle slots to start. More storage comes from garages across Leonida.
The loop becomes:
steal or obtain a car → register it → use a slot → buy more garage space → expand your collection
How to steal, sell and keep cars in GTA 6
Storing a stolen car does not automatically make it yours
GTA 6 distinguishes temporary vehicles from personal vehicles.
A stolen car can remain available for a while, but without registration it remains temporary.
Nelson says those vehicles can disappear when the game is restarted. Famitsu
Registering a car makes it a personal vehicle and uses one of your available slots.
Garages increase the number of personal vehicles you can retain.
Safehouses can create protected zones
Nelson says some areas around hideouts and story locations function as safe zones.
Certain open-world actions are restricted inside them.
For example, you cannot necessarily steal a parked car beside a safehouse or another protected story location. Famitsu
These zones prevent open-world systems from interfering with important characters, scenes or locations.
Paradise Garage is confirmed in Watson Bay
Paradise Garage appears as part of the Ultimate Edition content.
It is located in Watson Bay.
The official PlayStation Store description says it includes:
- storage for the ‘67 Vapid Dominator Buggy;
- a weapon locker;
- a secure place to deposit stolen goods that can later be fenced. PlayStation Store
The garage therefore connects with more than vehicle storage.
It can sit inside the loop:
robbery → loot → garage → storage → fence
Shore Court Garage sits near Ocean Beach
The Vintage Vice City Pack includes the ‘55 Vapid Stanier and Shore Court Garage near Ocean Beach.
The Xbox listing confirms that this garage also includes:
- a weapon locker;
- secure storage for stolen goods waiting to be fenced. Xbox
Shore Court is tied to the announced pre-order/purchase bonus.
Paradise Garage is associated with Ultimate Edition.
These are two specific garages with officially described facilities.
Their descriptions do not establish that every standard garage in Leonida has exactly the same features.
Garages connect with the weapon system
GTA 6 limits how many weapons you can physically carry.
Personal vehicles can store weapons, and Ammu-Nation locations have weapon lockers. Famitsu
Paradise Garage and Shore Court also have their own lockers according to the store descriptions.
Safehouse, garage and vehicle therefore serve different parts of preparation:
safehouse → garage → vehicle → choose equipment → head out
Jason has vehicles associated with his safehouse
Rockstar lists Jason’s Safehouse Vehicles as part of Ultimate Edition.
That content includes:
- Dinka Enduro;
- Crest Kayak. Rockstar Games
Rockstar presents both as vehicles associated with Jason’s safehouse.
The company has not yet explained their full spawn, recovery or availability rules outside the Ultimate content.
Is Starlet Motel a safehouse?
The Starlet Motel appears in official footage with Jason and Lucia.
Rockstar has not publicly labeled it as a safehouse or explained what functions it has.
It can be discussed as a location connected to the pair.
It should not yet be treated as a confirmed functional safehouse with the same systems as Jason’s home.
Can you buy businesses and other properties?
Rockstar has shown businesses, workshops, garages and other properties across Leonida.
That does not establish a general business-purchase system.
Before launch, we still do not know whether players can purchase:
- apartments;
- mansions;
- stores;
- clubs;
- passive-income businesses;
- rental property;
- land.
Garages are the property purchase directly described by Nelson.
