GTA 6 Heists and Robberies: Stores, Banks, Fences and How They Work
GTA 6 lets you rob stores in free roam and take on larger targets including jewelry stores, small banks and gang hideouts. You can use stealth, work alone or bring Lucia, then move stolen loot through fences.

What these labels mean
- Confirmed
The information comes from its owner: the studio, publisher, manufacturer or platform, such as Rockstar, Take-Two, Sony, Elgato or YouTube.
- Unconfirmed
Media reports, leaks, estimates, community reconstructions and our own deductions. A rumor remains unconfirmed even when many outlets repeat it.
Robberies in GTA 6 exist both inside missions and in the open world.
Rob Nelson confirms that a store shown during the preview can be robbed as part of a mission or simply because the player decides to do it. You can go in alone or ask Lucia to come with you.
The system scales into larger targets. Nelson mentions jewelry stores, small banks and gang hideouts containing cash or drugs.
Then you still have to escape with the loot and, where required, move it through a fence.
Getting in is one part. Getting out with the loot — and turning it into money when needed — is the other.

Robberies can happen outside missions
Famitsu asked Rob Nelson whether the gas-station store robbery shown during the demonstration was a fixed mission or a free-form activity.
His answer was both.
You can do that robbery alone or bring Lucia along.
The same underlying system can therefore appear inside a designed mission and while you are simply exploring Leonida.
Creator-preview reporting also attributes a broader statement to Nelson: players can attempt to rob any store they can enter, even when it does not appear as a dedicated robbery marker on the map.

How a stealth robbery works
Nelson demonstrated a complete route for entering a store without triggering a police response.
The sequence was:
rear entrance → Snap Gun → cameras → alarm system → register → leave
The rear door could be opened with a Snap Gun, a specialized lock-picking tool.
Kicking the door would have triggered the alarm.
Once inside, Nelson showed that security cameras can be destroyed and the alarm system disabled.
If nobody sees you and no alarm goes out, you can take the register cash and leave without automatically creating an active police pursuit.
The loot can leave before the alert does.
Stealth has a direct mechanical purpose: it stops information about the crime from reaching law enforcement.
You can also go in loud
The same robbery system supports a more direct approach.
You can:
- force your way inside;
- threaten people;
- use weapons;
- leave before police arrive.
That creates more ways for witnesses, alarms and cameras to report what happened.
Criminal Profile also sits over the encounter.
Nelson says using force during a robbery is treated differently from continuing to escalate violence after the situation is already under control.
Safes create a time-versus-loot decision
Creator previews describe robbery safes that can be handled in different ways.
One route involves finding the combination.
Another uses explosives to open the safe faster while damaging some of what is inside.
{unconfirmed}
Preview reporting also describes several ways of obtaining codes:
- searching the location;
- picking up information from the environment;
- receiving information from a contact or fence.
Rockstar has not published a universal safe system covering every robbery.
The consistent tradeoff is straightforward:
spending more time can preserve more loot while giving police longer to arrive.
Jewelry stores can be robbed
Nelson directly mentions jewelry stores as robbery targets.
He also says they have stronger security and are better approached with preparation.
Police response can be severe.
Creator previews additionally describe jewelry stores selected from the map with information about entrances and estimated potential loot.
Any dollar value seen in a particular preview belongs to that demonstration and should not be treated as a universal jewelry-store payout.
Small banks are robbery targets too
Famitsu records Nelson saying that players can rob small banks, either alone or together.
Rockstar has not published:
- a bank list;
- payouts;
- vault systems;
- access requirements;
- mandatory preparation steps.
Banks are part of the available target set.
Their full structure remains unknown.
Gang hideouts contain cash and drugs
The map can provide information about gang hideouts.
Nelson says you can identify one, sneak inside and steal:
- cash;
- drugs.
The map can even show how much cash and how many drugs are being stored at certain hideouts.
Stolen drugs can then be taken to a fence.
That creates a clear loop:
find target → check potential loot → enter → steal → escape → move the goods through a contact
Are there five robbery tiers?
TGG describes roughly five levels of robbery, ranging from small shops to major story jobs.
That classification comes from creator-preview reporting.
Rockstar has not published a numbered system officially called “the five robbery tiers.”
The reported structure is best treated like this:
| Reported scale | Target type |
|---|---|
| Low | Stores and small businesses |
| Medium | Targets such as jewelry stores |
| Larger | Banks and higher-value businesses |
| High risk | Gang or criminal compounds |
| Story | Major campaign heists |
{unconfirmed}
The individual target types are supported by previews and developer interviews. The exact five-tier organization belongs to preview reporting.
Larger targets can appear on the map
GTA 6 uses a 3D map carrying information about the world.
Nelson confirms that it can display criminal hideouts and information about cash or drugs stored there.
Creator previews add that some larger robbery targets can show an approximate potential take before you commit.
That lets you compare reward against risk.
It does not mean every convenience store is marked with a robbery icon or payout estimate.
Some opportunities can be discovered simply by exploring.
You can rob alone or with Lucia
Nelson confirms both options for free-roam robberies.
You can go in alone.
You can also bring Lucia.
The target can stay the same. The job changes when Lucia comes with you.
That division of roles can continue during the escape:
- one protagonist drives;
- the other shoots;
- control can move between Jason and Lucia depending on the mission.
One sequence shown by Rockstar switches control during a getaway, moving the player from shooting to driving.
How switching between Jason and Lucia works
Masks matter after the robbery
Police work from the information they receive.
Nelson gives an example involving Jason and Lucia wearing masks.
If the report describes a masked suspect, removing the mask after breaking contact makes you match that description less closely.
Police information can also include:
- clothing;
- vehicle;
- weapon;
- Jason and Lucia being seen together.
The escape continues after you leave the building.
Suppressive fire can cover an escape
GTA 6 adds suppressive fire.
Nelson says you can deliberately fire near police or civilians to force them to react and buy time without shooting them directly.
That gives weapons another use during an escape.
It also connects with Criminal Profile because the game can remember how far you choose to escalate violence.
Some loot needs a fence
Not everything stolen becomes spendable cash immediately.
Nelson confirms that goods such as drugs taken from gang hideouts can be delivered to a fence.
Paradise Garage and Shore Court Garage also include secure storage for stolen goods that can later be fenced.
That connects robbery, garages and the economy.
Open-world money matters to story progression
Nelson says completing missions alone will not necessarily provide enough money to keep advancing.
At certain points, players need to earn money in the open world.
That gives activities such as:
- store robberies;
- selling stolen cars;
- attacking larger targets;
- fencing loot;
a direct connection to campaign progression.
Raul Bautista is connected to major scores
Rockstar presents Raul Bautista as an experienced bank robber looking for people willing to take risks.
Official footage places him with Jason and Lucia during a robbery escape.
Famitsu describes a mission in which Jason, Lucia and Raul flee while police pursue them.
During the sequence:
- Jason initially shoots;
- Lucia drives;
- control changes;
- the player then drives as Lucia while Jason and Raul cover the escape.
Major story robberies can therefore use character switching as part of the mission itself.
Will GTA 6 use GTA 5-style heist planning?
GTA 6 already shows preparation at several levels:
- selecting a target;
- checking map information;
- choosing an entrance;
- bringing tools;
- deciding whether to work alone or with Lucia;
- planning the exit.
Rockstar has not confirmed a planning-board system identical to GTA V.
It has also not explained whether every major heist allows players to:
- hire crew members;
- split percentages;
- choose between fixed approaches;
- replay the heist afterward.
Preparation is part of the system.
Its complete interface and structure are still unknown.
