RDR2 at 60 FPS on PS5 and PS5 Pro: Current Status
Red Dead Redemption 2 remains capped at 30 FPS on PS5 and PS5 Pro. Rockstar has not announced a native PS5 version or an official 60 FPS patch.

What these labels mean
- Confirmed
Confirmed means the information comes from its owner: the studio, publisher, manufacturer or platform (Rockstar, Take-Two, Sony, Elgato, YouTube…).

Unconfirmed is everything else: media reports, leaks, estimates, community reconstructions and our own deductions. A rumor remains unconfirmed even when many outlets repeat it.
Red Dead Redemption 2 still runs at 30 FPS on PS5 and PS5 Pro.
Both consoles run the PS4 Pro version through backward compatibility, and that version is capped at 30 FPS.
Rockstar has not released a native PS5 version or an official patch that unlocks 60 FPS.

RDR2 runs at 30 FPS on PS5
PS5 runs the PS4 Pro code.
That code has a 30 FPS cap.
The console has more power available, but the game still keeps that limit.
There is no hidden Performance Mode.
There is also no setting that turns RDR2 into a 60 FPS game.
The PlayStation Store still lists it as a PS4 game with PS4 Pro Enhanced support.
PS5 Pro is also capped at 30 FPS
PS5 Pro is more powerful.
RDR2 still uses the PS4 Pro profile.
More power. Same cap: 30 FPS.
The console cannot remove a software cap by itself.
Rockstar would need to update the game.
It has not done that.
My TV says 60 Hz or 120 Hz
That does not mean RDR2 is running at 60 or 120 FPS.
Hz tells you how often the display refreshes.
FPS tells you how many new frames the game creates.
Your TV can refresh 120 times per second. RDR2 still produces 30 new frames per second.
Some TVs use motion interpolation to make movement look smoother.
That does not change the game’s real frame rate.
Why are there RDR2 60 FPS PS5 videos?
Because unofficial patches exist.
Digital Foundry, as reported by PlayStation Universe, and modder Illusion have tested modifications that remove the 30 FPS cap on a modded PS5.
Once the cap is removed, RDR2 can run much faster.
That also shows where the limit is: the software.
Those patches require a modified console.
A normal PS5 still runs RDR2 at 30 FPS.
RDR1 does run at 60 FPS
This causes a lot of the confusion.
Red Dead Redemption received versions for:
- PS5;
- Xbox Series X|S;
- Switch 2.
They launched on December 2, 2025.
On PS5 and Xbox Series, RDR1 runs at 60 FPS, with HDR and resolutions up to 4K.
Eligible owners of earlier digital versions can also upgrade for free.
Even before the native version arrived, RDR1’s PS4 release received a 60 FPS option when played on PS5 through Title Update 1.03.
RDR2 has never received an equivalent update.

Are there rumors of an enhanced RDR2 version?
Yes.
They remain rumors.
May 2025
Gamereactor and Nintenduo, as covered by RockstarINTEL, reported that RDR2 would receive PS5 and Xbox Series enhancements and a Switch 2 version before March 31, 2026.
That date passed.
Rockstar announced nothing.
February 2026
NateTheHate, as reported by VideoGamer, was asked whether the project had slipped to 2027.
He said that, as far as he knew, RDR2 was still expected in 2026.
Rockstar did not confirm it.
June 2026
The same insider, as reported by Notebookcheck suggested the update could already be finished and sitting unreleased, with GTA 6 affecting the schedule.
That remains unconfirmed too.
