Where to find elk
Elk live mainly in northern forest and mountain regions.
Useful areas include:
- Cattail Pond;
- Big Valley;

If you just need one pelt for Pearson, start at Cattail Pond.
It is accessible early and gives you room to inspect the animal before shooting.
Getting to Cattail Pond
From Valentine:
- ride west;
- head toward Wallace Station;
- find Cattail Pond northeast of the station;
- search the shoreline, nearby woods and slopes.
The elk does not need to stand beside the water.
Scan the whole surrounding area.
Bull or Cow Elk?
The game has:
- Rocky Mountain Bull Elk;
- Rocky Mountain Cow Elk.
For a Perfect Elk Pelt:
quality is what matters.
A 3-star Cow Elk works.
If Pearson needs the pelt, do not waste time waiting for antlers.
Check quality first
Use binoculars or a rifle scope.
Look for:

What about the Legendary Elk?
The Legendary Elk is east of Bacchus Station.
That is a separate legendary hunt.
Its materials are used for legendary crafting and do not replace a normal Perfect Elk Pelt in recipes asking for one.
What is a Perfect Elk Pelt used for?
Pearson uses Perfect Elk Pelts during satchel crafting.
The Trapper also uses elk pelts for clothing.
If you are working toward the Legend of the East Satchel, an elk hunt is part of the earlier satchel work.
Can I carry the whole elk?
No.
The elk is too large to carry whole. Skin it and put the pelt on your horse.
Take it directly to Pearson or the Trapper.
What if I die?
A normal Perfect Pelt can be lost.
It does not receive the automatic recovery protection of Legendary Animal pelts.
