Where to find cougars
From Strawberry:
- ride west;
- reach Lake Owanjila;
- take the road north/northwest;
- follow it into Black Bone Forest;
- continue toward the Trapper.
Cougars can appear beside the road, between the trees or on the nearby slopes.
Treat this as a short hunting route rather than one exact pixel on the map.
Your horse is an alarm
A cougar is often nearby when:
- the horse becomes nervous;
- a red dot appears;
- you hear a growl;
- the horse starts trying to throw Arthur.
When that happens:
check the minimap and prepare Dead Eye.
The cat is already close.
Equip the weapon first
Before entering the spawn area:
equip the rifle or bow.
