RDR2 Missables: Chapter-by-Chapter Checklist

Official Total Completion can largely be cleaned up after the story, but a truly complete save has missable content. Keep a manual save at the start of every chapter.

Before advancing
Manual save
Chapters 2–4
Companion activities
Errand Boy
5 requests
Honor
Optional missions
A man smoking and a woman sitting inside a camp tent in Red Dead Redemption 2
A camp scene in Red Dead Redemption 2.

RDR2’s official 100% Total Completion does not require every missable item or scene.

Official 100% is not the same as seeing everything.

You can finish the story and continue cleaning up the Total Completion menu.

A near-perfect save is different.

You can permanently miss:

  • companion activities;
  • camp requests;
  • optional missions;
  • unique weapons;
  • hats;
  • documents;
  • Guarma wildlife;
  • scenes;
  • specific trophies or achievements.

The safest rule is simple:

make a manual save at the start of every chapter.

Keep it.

The rule that prevents most mistakes

Quick and easy

Whenever the gang moves to a new camp:

  1. make a manual save;
  2. talk to everyone;
  3. sleep and return at different times;
  4. do useful white companion markers;
  5. deliver pending requests;
  6. return to camp between major yellow missions.

Many RDR2 events depend on time of day, character availability and exact story progress.

Missable trophies and achievements

Four deserve special attention.

Friends With Benefits

Complete one companion activity in:

  • Chapter 2;
  • Chapter 3;
  • Chapter 4.

One per camp is enough.

Errand Boy

Deliver 5 camp companion item requests.

Do this while Arthur’s camps are still active.

Give to the Poor

Donate a total of $250 to the gang donation box.

Multiple donations count.

Finish this before the box is no longer available.

Lending a Hand

Complete the optional Honor story missions.

Several are time-sensitive.

Do them when their markers appear.

CHAPTER 1 — Colter

Exploration is limited here.

Documents inside missions are the easiest things to leave behind.

Who the Hell is Leviticus Cornwall?

Search the final train car before leaving.

Completionists can collect Cornwall-related documents there.

Loot first.

Continue afterward.

CHAPTER 2 — Horseshoe Overlook

This is where missables really begin.

Before leaving Horseshoe Overlook, check:

  • companion activities;
  • camp item requests;
  • optional missions;
  • camp documents;
  • Pearson’s Scout Jacket if you want it.

Chapter 2 companion activities

Clear examples include:

  • hunting with Charles;
  • home robbery with Javier;
  • Five Finger Fillet with Lenny.

For Friends With Benefits:

complete at least one.

Chapter 2 requests

Requests can come from characters including:

  • Abigail;
  • Jack;
  • Javier;
  • Mary-Beth;
  • Pearson;
  • Sean;
  • Dutch.

Errand Boy needs five delivered requests overall.

For a completionist save, trigger as many as you can.

Pearson’s Scout Jacket

Pearson can request an unskinned rabbit carcass during Chapter 2.

His reward is the unique blue Scout Jacket.

When the request appears:

  1. accept it;
  2. get an intact rabbit;
  3. do not skin it;
  4. give it to Pearson.

Do not leave this for the Epilogue.

We Loved Once and True

Read Mary’s letter in Arthur’s tent.

Complete the strand when it appears if you want all of Arthur’s story content.

Money Lending and Other Sins

Complete Strauss’s optional debt collections.

The strand continues through later chapters and matters for Lending a Hand.

Good, Honest, Snake Oil

This Valentine bounty mission is another optional Honor-story requirement.

Before Chapter 3

  • One companion activity complete.
  • Camp requests checked.
  • Progress toward five Errand Boy deliveries.
  • Progress toward $250 donated.
  • Mary’s letter checked.
  • Strauss checked.
  • Pearson checked if you want the Scout Jacket.
  • Keep a Horseshoe Overlook manual save.

CHAPTER 3 — Clemens Point

Use the same routine.

Return to camp at different times.

Companion activities

Chapter 3 can include:

  • Five Finger Fillet with Micah;
  • Dominoes with Tilly;
  • Home Robbery with Sean;
  • fishing with Javier;
  • fishing with Kieran;
  • Coach Robbery with Bill;
  • Coach Robbery with Sean.

For Friends With Benefits:

complete one.

Money Lending and Other Sins IV

Check Strauss.

Complete the available debt work before leaving the chapter.

The Course of True Love

Follow the Penelope and Beau strand as it appears.

Rare Rolling Block Rifle

During Magicians for Sport, an enemy carries the unique Rare Rolling Block Rifle.

Loot it during the mission. Leave without the rifle and you may lose your chance.

Before Chapter 4

  • One Chapter 3 companion activity complete.
  • Strauss checked.
  • Rare Rolling Block Rifle collected.
  • Camp requests checked.
  • Clemens Point manual save kept.

CHAPTER 4 — Shady Belle

This is the final camp needed for Friends With Benefits.

Complete one companion activity here.

Companion activities

These can include:

  • hunting with Pearson;
  • Coach Robbery with Lenny;
  • Coach Robbery with Micah;
  • cattle rustling with Uncle.

Charles’s bank robbery is edition-specific content and is not required for Friends With Benefits.

Help a Brother Out

Find Brother Dorkins in Saint Denis.

Complete the mission for the Honor chain.

Brothers and Sisters, One and All

This follows Help a Brother Out.

Complete it before pushing too far through the chapter.

It also connects to later Sister Calderon content.

Fatherhood and Other Dreams

Check Mary’s letter.

This is Arthur-specific and time-sensitive.

Money Lending and Other Sins V

Check Strauss again.

Before Banking, the Old American Art

Before Banking, the Old American Art: save. Do not overwrite it.

That is your fallback before Guarma.

If you discover later that you missed a macaw or boa, this save is far better than restarting the game.

Checklist:

  • Chapter 4 companion activity complete.
  • Help a Brother Out complete.
  • Brothers and Sisters, One and All complete.
  • Fatherhood and Other Dreams complete.
  • Strauss checked.
  • Important requests delivered.
  • $250 donated for Give to the Poor.
  • Manual save before the bank robbery.

CHAPTER 5 — Guarma

If you only want official 100%:

the exclusive wildlife is not required.

For a fully filled Animal Compendium:

stop here and do it now.

Main wildlife checklist

  • Blue and Yellow Macaw;
  • Great Green Macaw;
  • Scarlet Macaw;
  • Red-footed Booby;
  • Red Boa;
  • Rainbow Boa;
  • Sunglow Boa.

You can also record the Fer-de-Lance while you are there.

It can appear later around Stillwater Creek, but Guarma is a useful opportunity.

The Green Turtle can produce a journal sketch, although it does not occupy a normal Animal Compendium slot.

Sun Hat

Guarma soldiers can wear a permanently savable Sun Hat.

Get one here if you want every missable/stolen hat.

Official 100% does not require it.

CHAPTER 6 — Beaver Hollow

Many Arthur-only optional missions cluster here.

Do not rush toward the ending if you care about Lending a Hand or a complete Arthur save.

Do Not Seek Absolution

This requires sufficiently high Honor.

Look for Edith Downes in Annesburg.

Complete both parts.

The Course of True Love IV and V

Check the relevant letter at camp.

Finish the strand.

Archaeology for Beginners

Agree to help Rains Fall when the story gives you the choice.

His mission becomes available afterward.

Owl Feather Trinket

During Archaeology for Beginners, recover the items without killing the soldiers.

Use stealth.

Rains Fall can then reward Arthur with the Owl Feather Trinket.

Honor, Amongst Thieves

When Captain Monroe asks for help during Archaeology for Beginners:

accept.

That unlocks the follow-up.

Of Men and Angels

If you completed the Brother Dorkins / Sister Calderon content, return to Saint Denis when this becomes available.

Do it before pushing the story forward.

Money Lending and Other Sins VI and VII

Check Strauss.

These parts belong to a specific Chapter 6 window.

Mrs. Sadie Adler, Widow

Complete Sadie’s optional parts before the chapter closes.

Charlotte Balfour

If you begin Charlotte’s encounters as Arthur, complete the strand.

Leaving her halfway through can change what happens by the Epilogue.

Keep this Arthur save

Before:

Our Best Selves

make a manual save.

Do not overwrite it.

That gives you a late Chapter 6 Arthur save with the open world still available.

What official 100% does not care about

You can miss things such as:

  • Pearson’s Scout Jacket;
  • exclusive Guarma animals;
  • Sun Hat;
  • Rare Rolling Block Rifle;
  • camp requests;
  • many companion activities;

and still reach official Total Completion.

Specific trophies and a perfect-save run are stricter.

Saves worth keeping

Save 1

Start of Chapter 2.

Save 2

Start of Chapter 3.

Save 3

Start of Chapter 4.

Save 4

Before Banking, the Old American Art.

Save 5

That looks excessive until you notice a missing snake thirty hours later.

  • One in Chapter 4.

  • $250 donated.
  • Optional Honor missions completed as they appear.
