Save before starting
SAVE BEFORE ARCADIA FOR AMATEURS III.
Make a manual save.
Keep it.
If you lose the trail, the horse despawns or Jump to Horse refuses to cooperate:
reload.
Unlocking Arcadia for Amateurs III
Complete Albert Mason’s first two encounters.
After Part II, allow roughly:
48 in-game hours
to pass.
Albert then appears:
north of Emerald Ranch at Heartland Overflow.
He wants a photograph of wild horses.
The Silver Dapple Pinto is part of that herd.
Identify the horse first
Before pushing the herd toward Albert, find the Silver Dapple Pinto.
It has the distinctive light silver dappled coat.
Keep visual track of it as the herd begins moving.
The mission horse has limited normal interaction.
Calling, calming and lassoing it may not work.
The acquisition method relies on:
Jump to Horse.
Full method
Step 1 — start the mission
Talk to Albert.
Mount your horse.
Ride toward the herd.
Do not immediately scatter them.
Locate the Silver Dapple Pinto first.
Step 2 — identify the MFT
Find the silver dappled horse.
Keep the camera on it.
You want to know exactly which member of the herd you are tracking.
Step 3 — use Eagle Eye and track it
Master Roshi TechniqueWhile herding:
- activate Eagle Eye;
- focus on the Silver Dapple Pinto;
- start tracking its trail when possible;
- continue pushing the herd toward Albert.
Refresh Eagle Eye repeatedly.
Keep the trail alive.
If the trail says Herd
The game may initially treat the horses together.
Keep focusing on the Silver Dapple Pinto.
Once the horses separate after the photograph, the trail is what gives you a chance to follow it.
Step 4 — herd the horses normally
Stay behind the herd.
Push them toward Albert’s marker.
Keep the Silver Dapple Pinto reasonably close to your line of sight.
Albert takes the photograph once they reach the correct area.
Step 5 — refresh the trail before the photo
Shortly before Mason gets the shot:
use Eagle Eye again and refresh the Silver Dapple Pinto trail.
This gives you the freshest possible track going into the final conversation.
Step 6 — ride to Albert
As soon as the photograph is taken:
go to Mason.
Trigger the final conversation.
Step 7 — SKIP the cutscene
Skip it as soon as possible.
The herd is moving away.
Every second helps.
The moment control returns:
mount up and chase.
Step 8 — use Eagle Eye immediately
Find the Silver Dapple Pinto trail.
Follow it.
Refresh Eagle Eye constantly.
The chase can be long
The horse may travel a surprisingly long way.
Community reports describe tracking sessions lasting ten minutes or more.
Do not assume the method failed because the MFT is not just beyond the first hill.
Follow the trail.
Step 9 — keep the trail alive
Horse tracks can:
- cross each other;
- run through roads;
- disappear into vegetation;
- become difficult to separate.
Use Eagle Eye again and again.
If the trail disappears completely and you cannot recover it:
reload the pre-mission save.
Step 10 — find the horse
When the Silver Dapple Pinto finally appears:
stay mounted.
Ride alongside it.
Get close enough that Arthur could jump from one horse to the other.
Step 11 — stop tracking if Jump to Horse does not appear
Master Roshi TechniqueThis detail fixes many failed attempts.
If you are beside the MFT and see no prompt:
leave Eagle Eye and stop actively tracking.
Ride alongside it again.
Look for:
Jump to Horse.
Tracking helps you find the horse.
Normal riding alongside it helps the jump prompt appear.
Step 12 — jump onto the MFT
When the prompt appears:
use Jump to Horse.
Arthur jumps from his current mount onto the Silver Dapple Pinto.
Do not rely on the lasso.
Prompt appears, then disappears?
Match the horse’s speed.
Stay close to its side.
Try to reach flatter ground.
Trees, slopes and big speed differences make the prompt much harder to hold.
Step 13 — break the horse
Once Arthur is on it:
complete the normal breaking sequence.
Counter its movement.
Stay mounted until it settles.
Step 14 — DO NOT dismount
After breaking the Silver Dapple Pinto:
stay on it.
Do not pick herbs.
Do not loot.
Do not swap horses.
Do not test whether it behaves like a normal owned horse yet.
Ride to a stable.
Step 15 — ride directly into a stable
Take the MFT into an available stable while still mounted.
Register/store it.
Give it a saddle.
Name it if you want.
The goal is to make the game properly register the horse.
Step 16 — make a manual save
Save after registering the horse.
Step 17 — reload
Load that new save.
Check the stable.
The Silver Dapple Pinto should now behave as a normal owned horse.
Jump to Horse does not appear
Try this:
- exit Eagle Eye;
- stop tracking;
- ride directly beside the MFT;
- match its speed.
Arthur needs to remain mounted on another horse.
Get close.
The prompt does not appear while you are several yards behind it.
I found it and dismounted
The horse may still refuse normal interaction.
The safest sequence remains:
find → jump → break → stable without dismounting.
If you can no longer mount it:
reload.
I lost the trail after the cutscene
Reload the pre-mission save.
On the next run:
- identify the MFT earlier;
- track it during the herding section;
- refresh the trail just before the photograph;
- skip the final cutscene immediately.
Faster version: chase the herd directly
A quick exit from the cutscene can sometimes let you catch the herd visually.
Then:
- skip the scene;
- mount immediately;
- sprint after the herd;
- locate the Silver Dapple Pinto;
- ride alongside;
- use Jump to Horse.
This saves time when you remain close enough.
The tracking method is useful when the herd gets out of sight.
Wagon-between-the-trees method
Players also use a wagon to slow the herd before the final cutscene.
Before starting
Master Roshi TechniqueTake a long wagon.
Four-horse wagons give you plenty of length, although smaller ones can work.
The herd tends to pass between two trees on its route toward/away from Mason.
Park the wagon across that gap.
Then run the mission
When the herd leaves after the photograph, the wagon can slow or redirect it.
Skip the cutscene.
Mount immediately.
Use Eagle Eye.
If the setup worked, the MFT should be much closer.
The wagon is optional.
It simply reduces the chase.
Do I need to shoot the horse?
No.
Some older variants use gunfire while manipulating the herd.
The Albert Mason tracking method works without shooting the Silver Dapple Pinto.
Keep the process simple:
track.
chase.
jump.
break.
stable.
The Biscuit random-encounter method
Another community method uses a random encounter involving a woman whose Silver Dapple Pinto appears dead.
Players can manipulate repeated spawns until the horse appears alive.
The method is inconsistent and can involve significant Honor loss depending on how the encounter is forced.
If Arcadia for Amateurs III is still available:
use Mason’s horse first.
Does the Albert Mason method still work?
Players continued reporting success in 2026.
The behavior remains unusual because this mission horse is not intended to work like a normal tameable wild horse.
That is why the sequence matters:
- keep the trail;
- skip the cutscene;
- Jump to Horse;
- remain mounted;
- enter a stable;
- save;
- reload.
A future update could always change unintended behavior.
