and

There is no trick that removes all luck.
There are ways to waste much less time.

Ranks unlock in order.
Gambler 1 — win five poker hands
They do not need to be consecutive.
Just win five.
Method
Use a low-stakes table.
Flatneck Station works well.
You do not need to wait forever for premium cards.
If you have decent cards or a good spot:
raise.
If everybody folds, the hand still counts as a win.
Useful mission
Who Is Not Without Sin can also provide progress if that part of the story is still available.
Gambler 2 — double down and win five blackjack hands
You need to:
- Double Down;
- win the hand.
Five times.
Do not double every terrible hand
Hands around:
- 9;
- 10;
- 11;
usually give you better opportunities to double.
The five wins do not need to be consecutive.
Wait for a reasonable hand.
Double.
Win.
Repeat.
Gambler 3 — win three Five Finger Fillet games
Use the first opponent.
You do not need the hardest player at the table.
Method
- Sit down.
- Watch the button sequence.
- Repeat it.
- Win.
- Play again.
Three wins.
If no opponent appears
Move away for a few seconds.
Return.
The table can reset.
Gambler 4 — bust a poker opponent in three locations
Bust one player at:
- Flatneck Station;
- Saint Denis;
- Valentine.
You do not need to clear the whole table.
One player needs to lose all their chips in each location.
Method
Target the player with the smallest stack.
When you have a reasonable hand, apply pressure.
If they call all-in and lose everything:
that location is done.
Move to the next town.
Gambler 5 — win three domino rounds without drawing tiles
Win three rounds without drawing from the boneyard.
Play against two or fewer opponents.
Where
Emerald Ranch is convenient.
One opponent is even better.
Method
- Try to keep several tiles sharing useful numbers.
- Play awkward high tiles early.
- Keep options for both ends.
- If you have to draw, that round cannot count.
- Keep playing for another qualifying round.
You need three rounds.
Not three full games.
Gambler 6 — beat the blackjack dealer in Rhodes and Van Horn
Simple.
Win one hand at:
- Rhodes;
- Van Horn Trading Post.
You do not need a big profit.
One hand in each location.
Move on.
Gambler 7 — beat the Five Finger Fillet player in three locations
Win at:
- Strawberry;
- Valentine;
- Van Horn.
One victory in each place.
Tip
Use the easiest opponent at each table.
Watch the pattern.
Then copy it.
There is no reward for pressing faster than necessary.
Gambler 8 — win three blackjack hands after taking three or more hits
This is the famous one.
You need to win three hands after taking at least three hits.
That means reaching five or more cards and still winning.
The three qualifying hands do not need to be consecutive.
Where
Rhodes or Van Horn.
Faster method
Use a seat that gets dealt early.
Then:
- Check your first two cards.
- If the total is already high, leave the table.
- Sit back down.
- If the total is low, play it.
- Take at least three hits.
- Finish the hand normally.
- You still need to beat the dealer.
How low is low?
There is no magic total.
Lower starting cards simply give you more space to take three hits without busting.
Starting at 17 is almost useless.
A very low starting hand is worth playing.
Quit bad hands immediately
This is the useful optimization.
If the first two cards make three hits extremely unlikely:
stand up and rejoin.
You skip the rest of a round that cannot help you.
Gambler 8 is still RNG
You cannot control the cards. You can throw away bad starts quickly.
A long dry spell does not mean the method stopped working.
Gambler 9 — win three consecutive domino games
Three games.
In a row.
Where
Emerald Ranch.
Try to play one opponent.
Fewer opponents. Fewer variables.
With one person, there are fewer variables and it is much easier to notice which numbers they cannot play.
Basic strategy
- Play high-pip tiles early.
- Notice which number forces your opponent to draw.
- Reopen that number when possible.
- Keep tiles that give you options on both ends.
- Empty your hand.
Community streak-saving method
Master Roshi TechniqueIf a game is clearly going badly:
leave the game during your turn.
Then sit back down.
When done correctly, abandoning the game can preserve your existing win streak.
Important
Leave on your turn.
Do not play a tile first and wait.
Do not wait for the opponent’s turn.
Once the loss registers, it is too late.
Without the shortcut
Emerald Ranch with one opponent is still the cleanest setup.
Watch what they cannot play.
Force draws.
Gambler 10 — win three poker hands in a row
Quick and easyAfter Gambler 8 and 9, this is usually much friendlier.
You need three hands.
Not three games.
Where
Flatneck Station.
Fewer opponents makes it easier.
Fast method
- Win the first hand.
- Play aggressively on the second.
- Raise heavily or go all-in.
- NPCs will often fold.
- Repeat for the third hand.
Winning by making everybody fold still counts.
Good cards help. Making everyone fold counts too.
Mission method
Community routes also use scripted wins from:
- A Fine Night of Debauchery;
- Who Is Not Without Sin.
If those fit your story progress, they can remove some of the luck.
If you want the Challenge done immediately, aggressive Flatneck poker is usually simpler.
The two time sinks
Gambler 8
Time disappears while waiting for playable low-card hands.
Fix:
throw away bad starts quickly.
Gambler 9
Time disappears inside long domino games.
Fix:
- one opponent;
- Emerald Ranch;
- leave on your turn before a likely loss.
Unlocks
| Rank | Gear |
|---|---|
| Gambler 1 | Holster |
| Gambler 3 | Bandolier |
| Gambler 7 | Gun Belt |
| Gambler 10 | Off-Hand Holster |
Buy the reinforced gear from the Trapper afterward.
