A Stream Deck controls your computer. Your PS5 or Xbox stays out of it.
GTA 6 keeps running on the console. You press a key and switch scenes in OBS. Another mutes the mic. Another saves a clip. Another controls a light.

Before you buy one, use your phone
Elgato offers Stream Deck Mobile for iOS and Android.
The free version gives you six keys on your phone’s screen. The Pro plan expands the layout to 64.
Start with six.
Add scene switching, mic mute, save clip and the actions you actually hit during a stream. Do a couple of streams like that.
If your fingers keep coming back to four buttons, you have your answer. If you fill whole pages, that’s an answer too.
Count your buttons first. Then buy the box.
Budget: Stream Deck Neo
Eight LCD keys. Two touch points. $99.99 at the Elgato store when last checked.
The two touch controls switch pages. Tap one and the eight keys can show eight other actions.
That’s where I’d put exactly what makes you let go of the controller most: scene, mute, clip, light.
The controller stays in one hand. The other finds a key with a name, a color and an icon.
The Neo also has a small Infobar between the touch controls to show info like the time.
If six phone buttons already covered almost everything you do, this is where you take them off the glass and turn them into physical keys on your desk.

Midrange: 15-key Stream Deck
Fifteen LCD keys. $149.99 from Elgato.
One row for OBS. Another for audio. Another for clips and stream actions.
The keys support folders and pages, so 15 physical positions don’t mean just 15 actions. The difference from the Neo is how many you can keep visible at once.
Think about what happens during a stream.
The match starts. You switch scenes. Someone joins Discord. You mute. You save a clip. You cut back to camera. You throw up a break screen.
With fifteen keys in front of you, fewer actions hide behind pages, menus and shortcuts.
If what you’re short on is physical buttons and you don’t need dials yet, this is the guide’s middle ground.

High end: Stream Deck +
Eight LCD keys. Four dials. A touch strip. $179.99.
This is where your hand changes.
Button: yes or no. Dial: more or less.
A key suits switching scenes, toggling something or muting a source. A dial suits a value that goes up and down.
Game on one. Mic on another. Music and Discord on the last two.
Turn it and the level changes. Press the dial itself and it can run another action.
Discord is too loud. You reach over and turn. No need to open the mixer to bring that source down.
The Stream Deck + also has a touch strip above the dials and integrates with Wave Link to control audio channels. The eight keys stay free for scenes, clips and other actions.
If you adjust audio levels more than scenes during a stream, those four dials already have work to do.
If you need more buttons: Stream Deck XL
The Stream Deck XL packs 32 LCD keys in an 8 × 4 grid.
It drops the four dials of the +. It gets surface instead.
Scenes, cameras, sources, macros and actions can all stay visible at once without flipping through as many pages.
Elgato sells it for $249.99 as of the last check.
The 32 keys take up more desk, but they also put a lot more actions right under your fingers.
Which one to pick
Start with Stream Deck Mobile.
If those six keys get almost all your taps and you want them off the phone, the Stream Deck Neo puts eight physical buttons on your desk.
When OBS, audio and clips start fighting over the same slots, the 15-key Stream Deck keeps more actions visible at once.
If your mouse spends a good part of the stream hovering over faders, the Stream Deck + puts four dials under your fingers.
If you need lots of actions visible and dials aren’t the priority, the Stream Deck XL goes up to 32 keys.
Don’t buy empty buttons.
Do the stream first and notice which actions make you let go of the controller.
Once you can name them, you know what goes on the Stream Deck.
If you’re building your setup from scratch, the capture card, microphone, webcam and light come first. The Stream Deck comes in once all of that works and you want to control it from one place.
